Programs
The programs and services at New View Society grew out of the needs of its
members, their families, and with government support. They are based on the philosophy of psychosocial
rehabilitation (PSR). Basically, PSR puts the individual (not the illness) at the centre of all
interventions.
The goal is to restore each person's ability for independent living,
socialization, and effective life management. It builds on the person's strengths and helps compensate for the
negative effects of the psychiatric disability.
Principles of PSR include the knowledge that all persons, no matter what the level
of disability, have the capacity to learn and grow.
Hope is a crucial and necessary ingredient of the rehabilitation
process.
The framework for growth and recovery includes emphasis on housing, work,
education, recreation and income. It includes professional services, peer support, family, friends, and community
involvement. The services at New View Society are balanced to provide direct and/or indirect services in all
aspects of growth and recovery.
